Creada en 1967 por iniciativa privada, la Camerata Bariloche es el primer conjunto argentino de música de cámara en haber alcanzado prestigio internacional, a través de sus muchas actuaciones en las tres Américas, Europa y el Lejano y Cercano Oriente.
Su primer director fue Alberto Lysy, a quien sucedieron Rubén González, Elías Khayat y Fernando Hasaj. Desde 2011 su Director Musical es Freddy Varela Moreno.
La Camerata, se desdobla en diversas oportunidades, en conjuntos más reducidos, desde duos hasta octetos, actuando con el nombre de Los Solistas de la Camerata Bariloche.
Más de dos mil conciertos se ofrecieron en estos años a los más variados públicos y en importantes salas del mundo: el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, la Salle Gaveau y Salle Pleyel de París, el Kennedy Center de Washington, el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York, la NHK de Tokio, el Olimpia de Atenas, la Beethovenhalle de Bonn, la Sala Tchaikovsky de Moscú, el Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid, la Sala Ritirsky de Praga, la Brahms Saal y la Musikverein de Viena, la Herkules Saal de Munich, la sala Ritirsky del Palacio Wallenstein de Praga, el Palau de la Música de Barcelona, el Auditorium de la Academia Musical de Osaka, Japón, y en el Bangkok Music Group Auditorium, de Tailandia, por citar algunas.
De la abundante lista de solistas nacionales y extranjeros que actuaron junto a la Camerata pueden mencionarse entre otros los nombres de Astor Piazzolla, Gerardo Gandini, Manuel Rego, Ernesto Bitteti, Ljerko Spiller, Yehudi Menuhin, Antonio Janigro, Janos Starker, Karl Richter, Katherine Ciesinsky, Nicolás Chumachenko, Maxim Vengerov, Jean Pierre Rampal, Vadin Repin, Cho-Liang Lin, Jean Ives Thibaudet, Frederika von Stade, Mstislav Rostropovich y Martha Argerich.
La Camerata Bariloche ha efectuado más de veinticinco giras internacionales por treinta y tres países, representando a la Argentina en las Olimpíadas Culturales de México y de Munich; en la Expo-70 de Osaka (Japón); en los festivales internacionales de Salzburgo (Austria), Taormina, Cittá di Castello, Cervo y Alassia (Italia), Montreux y Gstaad-Menuhim (Suiza), el New World Festival of the Arts de Miami (EE.UU.), el Festival de Otoño de Madrid (España) y en el Centenario del Carnegie Hall (EE.UU.). Tanto en estas oportunidades, como al ocuparse de sus numerosos registros discográficos, hechos en la Argentina, Estados Unidos y Europa, la crítica ha destacado los excepcionales méritos del conjunto.
Pero tal vez sea en los conciertos al aire libre donde con mayor claridad se comprueba el poder de convocatoria y la vasta popularidad que disfruta la Camerata entre el público. En una presentación en el Parque Centenario de Buenos Aires atrajo 60.000 personas, y en un concierto en el cual la Música para los Reales Fuegos de Artificio de Haendel se interpretó en combinación con juegos pirotécnicos, elevó aquella cifra a 130.000 personas, que desbordaron las instalaciones del Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo.
La Camerata Bariloche también ha incursionado en la cinematografía argentina actuando e interpretando la música de los films: “El Canto Cuenta su Historia” 1976; “Argentinísima” 1972; “El Hombre Olvidado” 1981; “Un Lugar en el Mundo” 1991; “Vidas Privadas” 2002; “Manuel de Falla, músico de dos mundos” 2006.
A lo largo de su trayectoria la Camerata Bariloche ha recibido una infinidad de distinciones, entre las que se destaca el emblemático “Premio Konex de Platino” al mejor conjunto de cámara en la historia de la música en la Argentina(1989), distinción que recibe nuevamente el 9 de noviembre de 2009.
Este año recibió el premio otorgado por “La Asociación de Críticos Musicales de la Argentina” en la categoría Orquesta de Cámara Argentina por su labor durante el año 2009.
Based in Buenos Aires, Camerata Bariloche is widely regarded as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. Some thirty years back, following a concert the previous evening, a review in Der Tagesspiegel in Berlin stated the following: “According the information found in the printed program, this Camerata from Argentina is ranked amongst the most famous ensembles of its genre in Latin America. However, we believe that this label they carry contemplates only a South American perspective. Judged from here and given its exceptional qualities, the ensemble Camerata Bariloche can easily withstand comparison with any present day European ensemble of its kind.”
It was created in 1967 and violinist Alberto Lysy was to become its first Music Director as well as Leader and soloist. A few years later, Lysy left the position and was succeeded by Rubén González, Elías Khayat and Fernando Hasaj.
Since its creation, Camerata Bariloche has continually excelled in performance throughout the world, quickly embarking on an international career. Their high standard of musicianship, their constant training and their instinctual exploration of new repertoire, led to a brilliant start and was widely acknowledged in the wholehearted appreciation their first appearances received in the Americas, Europe, the Pacific and the Middle East. With more than two thousand performances to call their own, they have played at Buenos Aires´ Teatro Colón, New York´s Carnegie Hall, Washington D.C.´s Kennedy Center, Paris´ Salle Gaveau and Salle Pleyel, Madrid´s Auditorio Nacional de Música, Barcelona´s Palau de la Música, Amsterdam´s Concertgebouw, Athens´ Olimpia, Bonn´s Beethovenhalle, Munich´s Herkulessaal, Prague´s Wallenstein Palace, the Great Hall at Vienna´s Musikverein, Moscow´s Tchaikovsky Hall and Tokyo´s NHK Hall, amongst others.
From their beginnings, Camerata Bariloche has made over 25 international tours, visiting 33 countries and, on many occasions has acted as representative of Argentina at cultural and performing venues; for example, at the Cultural Olympics in Mexico and Munich; at Expo-70 in Osaka; at the Festivals at Salzburg, Taormina, Cittá di Castello, Cervo, Alassia, Montreux, and Gstaad; the Autumn Festival of Madrid; the New World Festival of the Arts in Miami and at the Carnegie Hall Centenary.
In 1969, echoing their commitment to bring their art to all, Camerata Bariloche began to play at open air concerts. Their first appearances were in the streets of Ushuaia and Río Gallegos, two of the most southern cities on the planet. In 1985, a performance at Centenario Park in Buenos Aires, attracted more than 75,000 people. 1987 calls to mind their performance of Handel´s Music for the Royal Fireworks at Buenos Aires´ Palermo Race Track, to an audience of 130,000 together with a real firework display during the concert.
Linked to the critical and public acclaim stirred by their performances, Camerata Bariloche has been the recipient of numerous distinctions and awards, including the Argentine Prize for Excellence, Konex de Platino (Platinum Konex Prize) for best chamber ensemble in the history of Argentine music, in 1989 and 2009.
Camerata Bariloche has collaborated with many celebrated soloists. Amongst them are Marta Argerich, Astor Piazzolla, Gerardo Gandini, Manuel Rego Ernesto Bitteti, Eduardo Falú, Jaime Torres, Mercedes Sosa, Ljerko Spiller, Yehudi Menuhin, Antonio Janigro, Janos Starker, Karl Richter, Katherine Ciesinsky, Ana and Nicolás Chumachenco, Maxim Vengerov, Jean Pierre Rampal, Vadim Repin, Cho-Liang Lin, Jean-Ives Thibaudet, Eduardo Fernández, Frederica von Stade and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Their recorded legacy covers more than thirty albums. Their latest releases include three interesting CDs with works by Latin American composers, Impresiones (Impressions), Tango! and Death of an Angel for Dorian Recordings, and others like Nostalgia, Piazzolla Collection and Concerto per archi for the Testigo label. This is not their usual repertoire, which makes them all the more appealing.
On a par to their performing and recording career, Camerata Bariloche has been deeply involved in music education and related activities through its Chamber Music Center, created in 1977. By means of grants and scholarships programs for Argentine and foreign students, Master classes, Workshops, courses and educational concerts, Camerata Bariloche plays a key academic role in the pursuit of the highest levels o musical performance and the finest expressions of Argentinean musical tradition.
